Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation Policy Director John Hendrickson recently joined leading economists and policy experts from across the continent at the 2025 Economic Freedom of North America (EFNA) Network Conference, sponsored by the Fraser Institute and the Bridwell Institute for Economic Freedom at Southern Methodist University. The EFNA network brings together organizations committed to advancing policies that expand individual liberty and economic opportunity. ITR Foundation is proud to be part of this distinguished group, working alongside scholars and regular collaborators, such as Dr. Dean Stansel and Dr. Meg Tuszynski of the Bridwell Institute, Dr. Matthew Mitchell of the Fraser Institute’s Center for Human Freedom, and ITR contributing scholar Dr. Vance Ginn, Senior Fellow for Budget and Fiscal Policy at the Beacon Center of Tennessee.
At this year’s conference, John was invited to present on Iowa’s fiscal policy accomplishments and ongoing priorities. His remarks highlighted Iowa’s successful implementation of a 3.8% flat income tax, the state’s commitment to conservative budgeting, and the continued need for property tax reform and spending restraint. John also shared insights from his recent collaboration with Dr. Tuszynski on a series of widely published op-eds examining Iowa’s fiscal policy and the benefits of a spending limitation as a foundation for long-term property tax relief. Attendees appreciated his discussion of how to effectively communicate policy ideas and navigate a competitive media landscape—an area where ITR Foundation has gained meaningful experience and success.
The conference offered an engaging exchange of ideas about the policies that best advance economic freedom and prosperity, including spirited debate on issues such as trade policy. John’s participation reflected the growing recognition of Iowa’s fiscal reform story and the important role ITR Foundation plays in shaping it. Through partnerships within the EFNA network, ITR Foundation continues to learn from and contribute to a community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to strengthening pro-growth, fiscally responsible policy solutions nationwide.
