The most recent Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation Poll, conducted by Cygnal, shows Governor Kim Reynolds remains popular, President Joe Biden is growing more unpopular, and Iowans strongly support an amendment to the Iowa Constitution that recognizes the right to bear arms. Additionally, a majority of Iowans support the federal government reducing taxes and spending to combat record-high inflation.
Governor Reynolds leads Democrat nominee Deidre DeJear by 14 points on the gubernatorial ballot, while President Biden is down by 11 points to former President Donald Trump on a hypothetical 2024 Presidential ballot. President Biden is now viewed unfavorably by 65.3% of Iowans, while the generic Democrat candidate for Congress (40.1%) trails the generic Republican (52.9%).
Overall, Iowans believe things in our state are headed in the right direction (52.9%), rather than on the wrong track (42.8%).
ITR Foundation President Chris Ingstad said, “Results like these seem to indicate Iowans approve of the conservative policies enacted in our state, while wanting to push back against the liberal agendas being promoted by Washington, D.C. and the political left. We are encouraged that Iowans agree the best way to fight inflation is to keep more money in the hands of families and businesses, instead of cranking up taxes, spending, and corporate regulations.”
ITR Foundation Poll Methodology: This probabilistic survey was conducted July 13, 2022 – July 14, 2022, with 600 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of ±3.95%. Known registered voters were interviewed via live agents calling cell phones and landlines, and voters received invitations to participate in the survey via SMS with a secure link tied to their voter record. This survey was weighted to a likely 2022 general election voter universe.
